Jason, my wonderful husband and business partner, was born and raised in New Orleans. He knows everyone and we can't go anywhere without him being stopped by old friends and acquaintances. From his 20+ years in the casino business, everyone knows 6'5" "Big Jay." Never one to shy away from cutting up, making jokes and being just plain likable, he lives by his nickname "Politician." We even ran into someone he knew on one of our first dates in New York City for a Hornets Basketball Game; it's uncanny!
So boy meets girl just weeks after Katrina in 2005. He was ready to settle down and I was far from it! However, on his birthday in 2008, at the same restaurant where my parents were engaged thirty-eight years prior, he popped the question and I said YES! We spent the next sixteen months planning every last detail of our wedding, but the one detail we had the hardest time finding was CANDLES! We were planning a courtyard ceremony here in New Orleans and knew we wanted candles absolutely everywhere, but no one in the city
specialized in strictly candle décor. The florists simply did not have the inventory to meet our vision. So we bought everything ourselves, had friends and family handle the day-of set up and we joked that we should start our own candle décor company.
Well March 7, 2009, was simply magical. You can still see me mouth the words "WOW" on my wedding video when I first saw the courtyard of Board of Trade lit up with hundreds of candles. Someone saw that "WOW" in our wedding pictures and asked us to decorate their special day. Luminous Events was born!
Jason and I both left our day jobs two years into Luminous Events and the response of our little niche company has been humbling! We have grown leaps and bounds from that first event. We are now an ever-evolving specialty décor company with over 6000 square feet of inventory including chandeliers, lanterns, Chuppahs, custom branded décor, festoon lighting and a full construction team. Eight years later, our passion is still candle-lit events, setting the mood and creating those "WOW" moments.
